As you all are probably are aware, Guatemala has been witness to a few unfortunate natural events over the past weeks. Although a few surrounding towns were effected by mudslides and flooding, Antigua remained untouched. Life here in Antigua has remained the same, as it was when I arrived here four months ago. Understandably many of you must have concerns about proceeding with your trip to Antigua and attending CSA. As a current student and resident of La Antigua, I can tell you that there is no cause for such concerns. Antigua remains as one of the safest locations in all of Latin America in which to live and study. The past four months for me have been one of the most rewarding, enjoyable experiences of my life. While attending CSA and living with an arranged family, I have felt as comfortable and safe as I ever had living back home. I hope you all will take this wonderful opportunity to experience and learn Spanish in one of the best possible environments available. If you have any further questions or concerns pertaining to your potential time here at CSA, I would be more than happy to address them. Please contact me at Williamhhodges@gmail.com.

It is a beautiful time of the year to study Spanish at the Christian Spanish Academy in Guatemala. The tropical climate is a wonderful blend of the warm sun and the cooling rain. An added bonus is being in the charming, historical city of Antigua. I absolutely love it here, and I’m sure you will, too! If you have ever thought about studying Spanish, sign-up today!

Thank you so much for receiving me so kindly into CSA this last week. It was such a great pleasure. How delightful to see the school so full of people and in such wonderful shape. Everything is so beautiful and comfortable here. Not to mention the greatest teachers work at this school in all of Guatemala. I love the curriculum. Guatemala is very green now and everything is so beautiful. Even though we have had much rain, I am so happy to find Antigua in great shape as well as the school and the roads between Guatemala City and Antigua just fine. Everything in this great land is functioning well. I look forward to my time with you next week and I thank you for all your diligent labors for the students.
Sincerely, Gail Conner

I arrived at CSA in Antigua in late March 2010 planning to stay only one week during my gap year to acquire a little Spanish before travelling on to discover South-America… Not speaking any Spanish whatsoever I was apprehensive about arriving safely in Antigua from the Guatemala City airport…. I spoke with Monica over the phone in English to arrange my tuition schedule only a week before I arrived and was easily accommodated by the school… It was arranged I was to be picked up by the chauffeur of the school, Eddy, and taken to my homestay the day prior to starting my tuition. Everything and I mean everything around my arrival was smooth…. My flight was late however but when I went outside Eddy was waiting, found me and drove me to my Homestay and showed me the school the day before so I would know how to walk there in the morning…. I met my homestay family that Sunday afternoon and everything regarding my stay with my family has been first rate. The house is in great order and the food also. I eat three meals a day with my family and we are always speaking as a group over these meals. I can’t rate my homestay enough. I also have enjoyed the school and the way they taught me Spanish so much, that I am still here 3 months later, and with an extensive ability in Spanish considering I knew nothing prior and hated languages at school. I am about to embark on my journey south into more remote Spanish speaking countries. Antigua is a quaint, beautiful and very safe town however lately there have been many dramatic descriptions in the news around the world about natural disasters in Guatemala. There was a small volcano eruption close by that covered Guatemala City with volcanic ash and halted air traffic for close to a week however Antigua was completely unaffected and the streets were and are free of any disruption. Then there was Hurricane Agatha that created enough rain that many small towns at the foot of volcanos were disrupted by dangerous mud-slides that have killed many hundreds of people. However, Antigua is not, and will never be, affected by mud-slides because it is not geographically possible due to its distance from the closest volcano. I have written this short note to not only share with you first hand the glowing report of the teaching methods, the teachers, the location of the school, the quality of the school, its cleanliness, it’s beautiful building and hanging garden atrium but to allay any fears that potential students may have in regard to the safety of Antigua from natural disasters. I have lived here for the last three months and this town has not been affected by anything written in the papers. Antigua is situated in a safe location and the Christian Spanish Academy is the best school in Antigua if not the country of Guatemala and some other students have even said the world!
